The Man

Who Was Greg Booth

Greg Booth was a 31-year IBEW member and Local 1 Business Representative for 13 years before he was elected the Local's Business Manager in July 2011, by a two-to-one margin. He served just over a year in that role before he died Sunday, August 26, 2012, after months of illness.

Greg's first direct involvement with the union came in 1993 as a COMET instructor. He was hired as a Local One organizer in 1994, then appointed business representative in 1999 for St. Charles, Warren, and Lincoln counties. Before all of that he worked with the tools as a steward, foreman, and general foreman.

Outside the hall, he was unusually engaged. Charter member and president of the Tri-County Labor Legislative Club. Founder and co-chair of the annual Labor Tug-O-War. Labor liaison for the cities of St. Charles, Lake St. Louis, Wentzville, St. Peters, O'Fallon, and the St. Charles County Executive Office. Board member at Habitat for Humanity, the St. Charles County Fair 4H, and Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

Project Labor Agreements at the St. Charles Convention Center and Hotel, the County Administration Building, Ameristar Casino, Streets of St. Charles, and the city halls in O'Fallon and Wentzville all have his fingerprints on them. Governor Bob Holden appointed him a commissioner on the St. Charles County Sports Authority.

He was survived by his fiancée Kim Nilson, his parents William V. and Cheryl A. Booth and Suzanne F. Booth, his brother Thomas B. Booth, his nephews Nicholas T. and Dylan V. Booth, his daughter Hannah Brown and her husband Justin Brown, and his grandchildren Delilah and Kason. He was preceded in death by his daughter Amanda Ann Booth.

"Greg's leadership will be missed. May his Soul Rest In Peace."
